Who We Are
New Bedford Engine was founded in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s by JD Miller selling Homelite chainsaws & servicing small engines. In 1971 JD moved on into manufacturing & sold the small engine division to a current employee Eli Barkman Sr. Eli Sr then brought in the Stihl, Lawn Boy/Toro brands which are still our number 1 brands. In 1999 Eli Sr passed the business onto his son Eli Jr and he built it up to become very popular in the local logging industry as the “go to” place for your logging saws and logging supplies. Due to other interests and not having the room to expand Eli Jr decided to sell to the current owner Paul Hershberger & family in 2017.
Paul had 13+ year’s experience in custom machine building, welding and fabrication with a strong interest in mechanics. He also enjoyed counter sales which is why buying a Stihl/Toro dealership seemed a good fit for him. In 2021 New Bedford Engine & Supply, LLC had the opportunity to move from our 2400sqf shop into a brand new facility with over 9000sqf and a showroom that was bigger than our previous shop.
New Bedford Engine & Supply, LLC prides itself on its customer service - we know how important it is to be taken care of and to have someone you can trust. We want to continue to grow the legacy that was built before us and make sure our customers know they are our number one priority. Paul and his team of 4 employee’s have a combined 75 years of experience in the lawn & garden industry. Most of them wear multiple hats to make up the sales, parts & service departments. Not only can our team answer your questions intelligently, they'll help you find the parts you need.
New Bedford Engine & Supply, LLC is conveniently located in the northeast corner of Coshocton County in the growing little town of New Bedford, Ohio which is right on the edge of “Amish Country”.
